Family Music

Music Together:
I can often be heard saying "I have the best job in the world".  That job to which I refer is teaching with Music Together of Portland. Three mornings a week I facilitate parent/child music classes with children aged birth (yes birth!) to five, and their caregivers.  Each class is forty-five minutes of singing, dancing, fingerplays, lap songs, large movement, and instrument play.  It is pure joy for me and most of the families involved.  One of my favorite aspects of the program is that often parents who "don't feel musical" will sign up because they don't want their children to grow up and feel the same way.  So much of what I do in my classes is directed to those parents as I believe that one is never too old to begin to "feel musical."

Family Square Dancing:
Another of the great joys of my musical life comes from facilitating family square dances.  These are different from other community square dances mainly because of the vast quantities of children present.  The dances I choose to call lean more towards the ridiculous, and we all have a grand time.  I often do family dances in schools around town, but also occasionally in community centers and festivals.  Check upcoming gigs posted on the home page for possible future public family dance opportunities for you and your family.
